Vimperator Rocks
From FOSUG
Ok, about 2 months ago, Stevo introduced me to something called "Vimperator" while sitting at a Starbucks drinking the only substance more expensive than oil and HP inkjet cartilages. I shrugged it off as something interesting, but not really practical. For starters, I really have not been a fan of Vi, Vim or anything that requires me to remember strange key combo for things that could be menu-ized. Now, Now, I ask all those Fosugers out there to calm down. I have been known to be lazy when it comes to learning things that I already have a solution for. During a recent meeting Stevo once again showed off Vimperator, (And gave me a little hard time about not using VIM).
I suddenly had a feeling of guilt. Here I am promoting and pushing the CLI of Linux and I don't use, VIM (nor really know how to use it past basic editing) Bad Penguin, BAD! I guess it's time to learn. My Eee actually motivated me in the move. With a 7" screen I wanted to have as much space for what I was viewing/editing, and didn't want these menus cluttering up my VERY precious screen space. I hated having to keep using the mouse to bring back my menus. It was slow and clunky and awkward. OK, it's time to learn. I'll practice what I preach.
OK, I installed Vim on all my workstations, I'm making an effort to use it, to mend my evil ways. I also installed Vimperator on firefox. The Result: My mouse is lonely and needs love, it has a serious bone to pick with Stevo. The ability to fly around web pages with speed, accuracy and style, without every taking my hands off the keyboard. I love it. I have alot to learn. just learning the basics and working my way up. But WOW. Impressive little applet.
